From September 10 to 12, 2025 to 12 September, Gatis Šūpols, research assistant at the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science, and Sergejs Umnovs, electronics engineer, attended the KiCon Europe 2025 conference and training with the aim of improving their knowledge and skills in complex printed circuit board design as well as to learn about trends in KiCad software development.

During the practical training on the use of KiCad, EDI employees learned about the process of developing personalized project templates, creating customized layout design rules, and tips for facilitating the creation of electrical schematic diagrams and printed circuit board layouts.

The conference also featured a presentation of the planned functionality of the next (10.0) version of KiCad, as well as the experience of KiCad users in developing hardware prototypes and products. In parallel with the conference sessions, a KiCad/ngspice electrical circuit simulation workshop was attended.

During a round table discussion and informal conversations with KiCad developers, the experience of using the program was discussed and suggestions for improvements were made.
