The best way to discover science is not only by reading about it, but by experiencing it firsthand. That’s why we were delighted to take part in the Mērsraga Ābols Science Festival, where visitors spent two days exploring science through experiments, demonstrations, and conversations with researchers.

At the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science (EDI) booth, visitors met Edgars Lielāmurs, researcher at the Integrated Circuits and Systems Laboratory, and Ibrahim Sayed, Electronics Engineer, who introduced them to event-based cameras – an innovative machine vision technology that works differently from conventional cameras by recording only brightness changes at each pixel. During the live demonstration, visitors observed how the camera captures motion in real time, compared it with a traditional camera, and learned how this technology is used in robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, and scientific research.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, asked questions, and tried the demonstration. A special thank you to the organizers of the Mērsraga Ābols Science Festival for the opportunity to be part of an event that shows complex technologies can be explained in a way that is accessible, engaging, and interactive.

See you at the next science adventure!
