From 23 to 28 August, CIGRE Session 2026 took place in Paris – one of the leading international events in the power and energy sector, bringing together researchers, transmission and distribution system operators, technology developers, and major industry companies from around the world.
EDI was represented at the event by Dr Anna Mutule. CIGRE Session featured an extensive technical programme, exhibition, seminars, and thematic discussions addressing current challenges in power system development and technological solutions for future energy systems.
Particular attention was given to a seminar organised by ISGAN (International Smart Grid Action Network) on distribution grid development and grid support functions. The discussions covered long-term distribution grid planning under uncertainty, increasing system complexity, grid-forming technologies, integration of distributed energy resources, and new approaches to transmission and distribution system cooperation. Participation in CIGRE Session also provided an opportunity to discuss new research directions, potential collaboration opportunities, and ideas for future international research projects with researchers and industry experts, particularly in the areas of smart grids, power system modelling and stability, and future distribution networks.
