EDI has established a partnership with a company from the wind energy sector – SIA Baltic Wind Latvia, which services wind turbines. The partners are interested in developing efficient systems for continuous monitoring of wind turbine blade condition, using as few sensors as possible.

During the implementation of the LIAA mini-voucher in 2025, EDI employees demonstrated the sensitivity of acoustic waves to localized defects. To better understand the research needs, the partners proposed to conduct a direct inspection of the object.

On December 3, 2025, a site visit was arranged to one of the wind turbines located near Pope, in the Kurzeme region. EDI was represented by senior researcher Dr. sc. ing. Aleksejs Tatarinovs.

The participants had the opportunity to climb the wind turbine tower and enter one of the blades to examine its construction and materials. The trip provided new insights into the object and substance for consideration in the search for technical solutions for future research.
