A PQopen power quality measurement device has been installed at the Energy Research Centre of the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science (EDI). Its goal is to measure electricity grid frequency and voltage, as well as other power quality indicators (RMS, THD, etc.), publishing this data on the initiative’s open platform, pqopen.com.
PQopen is an open data initiative building cross-border electricity grid monitoring across Europe, built on open-source hardware, software and data. Such devices are already operating and taking measurements in several European countries, including Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, and others.
The installed device expands the scope and precision of EDI’s measurements, allowing for a more detailed assessment of how dynamic processes affect power quality indicators in the power systems of Latvia, continental Europe, and Scandinavia.
