We invite an artificial intelligence (AI) programming engineer (students are also welcome) to join the team of the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science (EDI) to work on the international scientific project LACISE, contributing to the development of future technologies in the energy sector.
EDI is a Europe-recognized research center in the fields of electronics, computer science and information technology with the main goal of promoting the development of a knowledge-based economy in Latvia. It is located at Dzērbenes Street 14, Riga, Latvia.
About the project:
The goal of the Latvia-Switzerland collaboration programme LACISE is to find solutions to modern energy challenges and educate next generations of scientists. More information can be found at: https://swiss-contribution.lv/projekti/lacise
Main responsibilities:
- Independently or under supervision of scientific work manager (researcher, leading researcher) complete individual research and/or technical tasks related to the development of artificial intelligence tools for improving the stability and efficiency of electricity networks;
- Research and develop optimization algorithms and softwares for real-time data processing and analysis to improve the operation of the electricity network;
- Test developed algorithms, softwares, and tools in different experiments;
- Collaborate with international partners and exchange information/data;
- Participate in research result documentation, scientific paper development and presentation.
Requirements for the candidate:
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in engineering or computer science;
- Experience in developing machine learning and/or optimization algorithms and/or data analysis solutions. Experience with the Ubuntu/Linux terminal, Python, PyTorch, and GIT will be considered an advantage;
- Good communication skills and ability to work both in a team and individually;
- High sense of responsibility and accuracy;
- Willingness to learn and acquire new skills;
- Interest in working in research, writing and publishing scientific papers, participating in conferences, and engaging in various other science-related activities;
- Good written and verbal proficiency in English;

Salary (gross):
From 1600 to 3520 EUR before taxes, depending on experience and workload.
Working hours:
Full-time, working hours are 8:30-17:00 (we are flexible and can adjust to other schedules).
