Krista Rumpētere, a young woman from the USA, who came to Latvia to participate in the internship programme organised by the American Latvian Association (ALA), had her internship at the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science in the summer. This programme gives young people from the diaspora the opportunity to get to know Latvia better, strengthen their Latvian language skills and develop professional skills.
During the internship, from 2 June to 11 July, Krista was supported by her internship supervisor Kārlis Freivalds. She actively participated in the AIMS5.0 project, where she worked on a robot control programming task. Krista was particularly excited about working with Genesis, a new Python library that she used to control the robot’s motion using the principles of Inverse Kinematics.
“Although my time as an intern at EDI was short, I learned a lot,” shares Krista. “I had the opportunity to work on a robot project where I helped to make the robot able to lift an object. I am grateful for the opportunity to improve my programming skills in Python and to work with such a professional and supportive team. Being from America, it was very important for me to speak Latvian and meet new people.”
EDI is proud to be part of such initiatives that promote the professional development of young people in the diaspora and strengthen their ties with Latvia. The internship programme, organized by ALA in cooperation with Latvian institutions, is a great example of how bridges can be built between Latvians around the world.
