From October 28 to 29, EDI embedded circuit and system laboratory employees – researcher Andrejs Cvetkovs and electronics engineer Sergejs Umnovs – participated in the 2025 IEEE Nordic Circuits and Systems Conference (NorCAS), which took place at Riga Technical University.

The main focus of the conference was the development of analog and digital integrated circuits, open source integrated circuit design tools, and data processing algorithms and artificial intelligence. Presentations covered innovations in compute-in-memory (CIM) technologies for artificial intelligence applications, algorithm hardware acceleration solutions, embedded system resource management algorithms, special-purpose analog-to-digital converter circuits, high-frequency digital and analog circuits.

In a separate keynote speech and a group discussion, it was stated that there is interest among companies in Europe in development of their own integrated circuits and that there is a shortage of microelectronics engineers. The speakers have also emphasized the importance of open source integrated circuit design tools in training new electronics engineers and integrated circuit design.
