The purpose of Shadow Day is to encourage high school students to choose their future profession by getting to know different professions and connecting school content with real life. This year it took place on April 5, and three high school students from the Riga 1st State Gymnasium – Toms, Jūrmala Pumpura High School – Roberta and Jēkabpils State Gymnasium – Dāvis shadowed researchers Laura Leja and Rihardas Balašs because they are interested in computers, robotics, mathematics, and research. Students could get acquainted with the internal work of EDI, how science is created, how projects are developed, and their results achieved. In addition, they got acquainted with tools and projects related to artificial intelligence, our self-driving cars, various developed robots and drones, smart wearable devices, an electromagnetically isolated cabinet for testing wireless equipment, as well as infrared sensors developed by EDI and other electronic equipment. Students also take advantage of opportunities to learn basic electronics skills related to soldering.
