Eduards Blumbergs holds a Professional Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from EKA University of Applied Sciences (2020), where he developed a security tool testing environment for web frameworks, and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Latvia (2022), where his thesis analyzed the security of vaccination certificate mobile applications. He joined EDI in 2024 while pursuing his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Latvia (2023-), focusing on fuzzing-based Bluetooth protocol security assessment.
From 2007 to 2020, he worked in various divisions of the Ministry of the Interior, providing technological support and network administration. While pursuing his master’s degree, he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Latvia as a penetration tester.
His specialties include cybersecurity of cyber-physical systems. He has been involved in projects related to Bluetooth protocol security (WearSec), IoT-Edge-Cloud Continuum data management (MOTE Rolise WP4.3), and real-time operating system hardware interfaces (PRAESIIDIUM).
His research interests include Bluetooth security, fuzz testing, IoT security, cyber-physical systems, and embedded system security.
Contributed to the scientific collective monograph, Cyber-Physical Systems: Securing Latvia’s Future (Routledge, DOI: 10.4324/9781003638858-11, ISBN: 9781003638858, 2025).
During the spring 2025 semester, he supervised Rinards Koršaks’s bachelor’s thesis, “Semantic vs. Non-Semantic CSS: Quantifying CSS Impact on Web Performance” at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Latvia.
He has completed primary musical education in choir singing and conducting, and has sung in boys’ choirs, men’s choirs, and mixed choirs for 35 years. He has participated in international choir competitions and toured multiple countries worldwide. Since the pandemic, he’s volunteered to support choirs’ cultural efforts online by working with audio, video, and image processing.
