On October 20, a municipal working group for the development of Riga as a smart city met in the Town Hall.

“In order to develop productive cooperation not only with the private sector, but also with academical sector, we have addressed some of the most capable and experienced representatives of Latvian companies and institutes working on the development of smart city solutions. Therefore, we hope that there will be a productive and goal-oriented discussion,” said Ilze Purmale, Director of the City Development Department of the Riga City Council, Head of the Smart City Working Group.

In the first part of the event, Inese Andersone, Chairwoman of the City Development Committee of the Riga City Council, informed about the possible progress in developing smart city solutions.

In the second part of the discussion, Jēkabs Groskaufmanis, project manager of the Business Management Service of Latvijas Mobilais Telefons, spoke about mobile technologies as the cornerstones of a smart city.

But the company “dots.” Aigars Jaundalders, Head of Information Technology Solutions and Development, presented smart platforms for cities.

In conclusion, the Deputy Director for Development of the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science, Dr. Kaspars Ozols gave a presentation “The Importance and Trends of Research in the Field of Smart Cities – EDI Experience”. You can watch the presentation HERE.
