The Institute of Electronics and Computer Science (EDI) in collaboration with the Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy of the University of Latvia has started a project entitled “Innovative technologies for acquisition and processing of biomedical images”. The project is supported by the European Social Fund within the ESF grant No. “2013/0009/1DP/1.1.1.2.0/13/APIA/VIAA/014”.

Scientific manager of the project is Dr.sc.comp. Ints Mednieks. (from 01.10.2013. to 30.06.2015.  scientific manager was Dr.habil.math. Aivars Lorencs)

The general goal of the project is attracting human resources to science by creating a new interdisciplinary scientific group for development of new technologies and devices for acquisition and processing of biomedical images. The group includes physicists, mathematicians, biologists and computer scientists and will focus on non-invasive acquisition and processing of images from skin lesions, heart and blood circulation monitoring as well as processing of various types of biomedical images.

The project time frame is from September 1, 2013 to August 31, 2015.
The total funding is 349396 LVL, including 323086 LVL from ESF.
